As of 5:00 am we have the majority of the fleet passing Milwaukee with some still near Racine. The wind is slowing to 3-5 knots out of the south south-east.

There have been no emergencies or injuries reported. The bulk of the fleet is 30 miles east / north-east of Milwaukee to Port Washington. The winds continue to be light at 4 to 10 knots.

We are able to report Section 3 boats (40-45 feet) have reported their position at 120 miles North of Chicago just south of Big Sable, Michigan. (1/3 of the way through the race couse). Winds are reported between 6 to 10 knots. The bulk of the fleet has been sighted 3 miles off shore of Muskegon, Michigan.

Winds have not picked up. The race committee had originally hoped Stars and Stripes would finish yet today. That hope is fading away as they deal with south south-east winds of 3-5 knots and peaks of 6-10 knots. The only official call ins were from section 3 boats as reported in the 11:30 a.m. report.
Due to calm winds and light seas there is not much to report as the boats continue toward the finish.

Section 1 boats (the fleet leaders) reported their position north of Big Sable with 8 knots of wind from the southeast and good weather conditions. First-to-Finish leader is the multihull Stars and Stripes, entered in an exhibition catagory only is estimated to be north of Point Betsie nearing the Manitou Islands with 2/3 of the race course behind them. If wind conditions increase or remain, Stars and Stripes may finish before midnight tonight. Other leaders may follow by finishing in the early morning hours with the bulk of the fleet finishing tommorow in the afternoon.
Observers Report Sunday, July 21 5:20 p.m. EDT
Observer Scott Gerstenberger saw three boats entering the Manitou Passage. It is believed that these boats are Chicago to Mackinac participants. (This is an unconfirmed report)

Observer Scott Gerstenberger noted that right after sunset, 12 boats were visible from Pyramid point at the North Manitou Shoal light.(This is an unconfirmed report)

As darkness sets in over the race course there are no further reports of boat locations. We will monitor events all night. The race committee is still expecting the first boat to finish sometime after midnight. When the first boat is in, we will be here to tell you about it.

Monday, July 22 7:20 a.m. EDT First to Finish Honors goes to Pied Piper
First to Finish honors (which is not the overall winner of the race) goes to all time record holder Pier Piper, a Santa Cruz 70 with sail number 41104, skippered and owned by Dick Jennings of Chicago and Burnham Park Yacht Club. This year Pied Piper finished on Monday, July 22 at 04:28:30 with an elapsed time of 36:55:30. The current First to Finish record of 25:50:44 was set in 1987 by Pied Piper.
This First-to-Finish honor, which is awarded as the Royono Trophy, is given to the boat to cross the finish line first. However the Chicago Yacht Club Chicago to Mackinac Race is a handicapped race. The overall winners are determined once the bulk of the fleet finished and the competing boat's handicaps have been calculated.
Last year's winner, Renegade, a 70 foot boat owned and skippered by Kenneth Meade of Gross Pointe Farms, Mich won with an elapsed time of 34:14:xx finishing at 12:44:27 EDT.

The boats are starting to pour into the island. We will provide results as soon as they are announced by the race committee. Dozens of boats have completed the race.
