In 1987 a 76 yeare old record was broken when Pied Piper, skippered by Dick Jennings, crossed the finish line in 25 hours 50 minutes and 44 seconds. Ironically, Pied Piper also holds the record for the slowest race in modern times at 62 hours and 29 seconds.
The previous first finish record had been set by AMORITA, a 110 foot steel schooner, in 1911, with a time of 31 hours, 14 minutes and thirty seconds.
