As a special point of interest, multihulled boats have been invited to sail in a non-competing status in this year's Mac. Most noteworthy, the 70-foot catamaran Stars and Stripes will participate. It will be skippered by Steve Fossett, known for his historic hot air balloon adventure across the world. Prior to Fossett's ownership, Stars and Stripes won the America's Cup with Dennis Connor.
