Since the Chicago Yacht Club's race to Mackinac Island is an offshore race, it is not usually considered a spectator sport. But there are plenty of opportunities for those interested in the race. A great place to view the sea of colorful sails is from the start in Chicago or the finish at Mackinac. However, every year, people follow the race on shore as they travel along Michigan's northern Lake Michigan coastline to catch glimpses of the fleet.
