. | 2001 Chicago Mackinac Race
Updates - July 14 PM Since the start of the race it has been all about light winds, smooth seas ... and fortunately very few flies! All reports from the course seem to tell the same story. There is movement on the course ... but it is slow. Larry Ellison's Sayonara reports a maximum speed of 11 knots and concerns that the continual light winds could adversely effect their boat. (approx. 6:00 PM July 14) John Nedeau's Muskegon, Michigan based Windancer (Nelson/Marek 68) reports Decision about five miles in front of them and Sayonara just ahead of them. They were also trailing Pied Piper, Nitemare and Evolution. (approx 6:00 PM July 14) Mirage (GL 70) reported Pied Piper leading the pack of boats heading toward the island. (approx 6:00 PM July 14) The Eagle (Sydney 38) moved over the Wisconsin border as it reported being able to see a couple of GL 70's well ahead of them and one 1D35 and Farr 395 nearby. (approx 7:00 PM July 14) High Priority 2 is believed to be leading the multi hull boats. Lucretia was reported about a half mile behind them. A mile behind High Priority 2 was Zingara, which is a F-31 like them and two miles to the rear was Ron White's Stampede. The race is described as enjoyable but light with wind out of the east - southeast at 3 to 4 knots. The good thing is that the flies are nearly non-existent. (approx 7:30 PM July 14) The Farr 40 Pendragon reported averaging about 6.5 knots with a location of 42 37 07N and 87 28 09W. (approx 8:15 PM July 14) |
